ACADEMY PROGRAM - CALVERT COUNTY

The Maryland United Academy program is designed to provide a fun, enthusiastic and positive learning experience, through practice and competition, for each player's first few years of soccer.

Academy Overview | 2026-2027 Season

The Maryland United Academy builds on the FUNdamental skills and techniques introduced in our Mini Kickers program, with more focus on introducing players to a team environment and learning the game.

For the 2026/27 season our Academy will cater to the following age groups:

U7 Boys & Girls Born between Aug 1, 2019 – July 31, 2020

U8 Boys & Girls Born between Aug 1, 2018 – July 31, 2019

Individual and team skill development will be stressed ahead of winning, with a focus on fun and long term development. The Academy will give players the foundational skills required to prepare for U9 soccer and beyond. All U8 Academy players will be eligible to graduate and try out for our U9 club teams for the following season. The 2026-2027 Academy payment schedule will be broken into seasonal payments (FALL, WINTER, SPRING).

*FALL 2026 | CALVERT ACADEMY

Training Program | $215.00*

1x practice per week on TBD at St. John Vianney

Begins in August

Approximately 10-12 practice sessions

Team Program | $475.00*

2x practices per week on TBD at St. John Vianney and TBD at Liberty Sports Park. Includes 7v7 league play in either CMSSL or AA County League.

Begins in August

Approximately 20-24 practice sessions and 8 league games.

Players who miss tryouts for the Maryland United Academy are encouraged to come out for an evaluation prior to registering for the Team Program. Please contact Laurence Smith before for more details and to schedule.

Two Programs are offered for U7 and U8 players:

1. Practice Program (1 x practice per week)

This option is perfect for players who are newer to soccer or who also have commitments to other sports.

2. Team Program* (2 x practices per week, with 7v7 games on the weekend). The Team Program will play within the Anne Arundel County 7v7 leagues or CMSSL at U8. This option is perfect for stronger U7-U8 players who are ready for increased competition. Limited spaces available for this program.

WINTER
December - end of Feb/early March

Two Programs are offered for U7 and U8 players:

1. Practice Program (1 x practice per week)

This option is perfect for U7-U8 players who are newer to soccer or who also have commitments and interests with multiple sports.

*Note the Team program is for the more committed soccer players who are ready for increased competition that comes with playing in the 7v7 team program format. Our Academy coaches will evaluate all players to ensure their suitability for the more competitive team program setting and reserve the right to keep players in our practice only program if we feel it is in the best interest of the player’s current skill and maturity levels.

Uniforms

Once you have registered and made payment for our Academy, you will receive more information with regard to ordering uniforms. The uniform ordering link will come from SoccerPost and will be sent to the email address you used to register for the Academy.

Approximately $95.00 for a Red & White Jersey, Shorts, Socks and Ball

For Practice and Games, players must wear their MD United Red Jersey, Black Shorts, Red Socks, Shinguards, and bring a Ball. An alternate White jersey is also provided for practices and games.

Uniforms can be used for the entire seasonal year (Fall 2026 through Spring 2027).

HOW MANY DAYS DO THE ACADEMY TRAIN AND PLAY?

Our Calvert Academy has evolved to offer the choice of two programs, catering to all levels, whether your young player is new to the game or has been playing soccer for 1-2+ years.

Firstly we have a practice only program for players newer to the sport or with other sport commitments, with one practice per week only. This is a great option for U7 players or U8 players who are newer to soccer.

The second program offered is our team program, which is for the more committed soccer players, given the 3-day a week commitment. This option is great for stronger U7 and U8 players who are ready for increased competition. This program includes one practice per week and games in a 7v7 league on the weekend, for Fall and Spring. During the Winter, the Team Program trains once per week, with Futsal games on the weekend from Dec-Feb.

Players who graduate from our Academy, will try-out for the rising U9 Maryland United FC travel teams the following year.

Do players have to tryout to make the Academy?

NO. All players can participate in our Calvert Academy.

For players looking to join the Team Program for Fall 2026, we do encourage all interested players to attend our tryout sessions in April/May. We plan to create multiple teams within the age group and we want to ensure we place players on an appropriate team that allows them to enjoy and learn the game of soccer.

With our seasonal registration process (Fall, Winter, Spring) roster movement may occur throughout the year within our Academy Team Program. We understand players develop at varying rates and may require different levels of competition at certain stages of their development.

As a parent you need to ask yourself: Does my child enjoy and want to play soccer 2-3 days per week? Does my child want to play in competitive games on the weekend? Is my child eager to learn and develop more skills? If you answered yes, then the Calvert Academy program is the correct choice for your child and you can select from one of the two programs we offer.
