South Tryouts 2025

PRESS RELEASE - March 25, 2025

Maryland United South Announces Expansion into Charles County

Maryland United South is excited to announce its expansion into Charles County.  This expansion is designed to provide more opportunities for players in Southern Maryland to access the highly competitive platforms Maryland United FC offers, including ECNL, ECNL-RL, and the National League.

At Maryland United FC, we are committed to developing highly committed soccer players in an inclusive environment who are a proud representation of the club at the state, regional, and national competitive platforms.

Southern Maryland has a rich history of producing top-level soccer players and Maryland United South is dedicated to continuing that tradition by offering both local and national platforms to showcase players’ talents.

Maryland United South provides a structured pathway for players to compete at the highest levels of the game. Through elite training and exposure to national competitions, athletes will have opportunities to progress within Maryland United’s developmental system and gain collegiate exposure.

Maryland United South teams will be created in the MK (U5-U6), Academy (U7-U8), U9, U10, U11 and U12 age groups with the purpose of combining the player pool with the entire Maryland United player pool at U13 and above for programming in the ECNL, ECNL-RL, National League & Premier levels.

At U13 and above the Maryland United South teams will tryout with the entire Maryland United player pool to create the first team (ECNL), second (ECNL-RL), third (National League) and fourth (Premier) teams in the age groups where the player pool is large enough to support more than one team.  If the player pool from the South is large enough to support a 11v11 team in the South, a team will be created (Maryland United South) and will primarily practice in a South location.

  • U8 (2017)  Boys & Girls
  • U7 (2018)  Boys & Girls
  • U6 (2019)  Boys & Girls

All players will learn the rules of the game and focus on improving individual technical skills of dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting.

Individual and team skill development will be stressed ahead of winning, with a focus on fun and long term development. The small-sided games approach (from 1v1 to 5v5) is the optimal way to introduce young players to the beautiful game.

All Junior Academy players will then graduate to tryout for our U9 teams the following year.

TRAVEL SOCCER - 2024-25 SEASON

Maryland United is delighted to offer club soccer in Southern Maryland. We have a U11 Girls (2014), U11 Boys (2014) and U13 Boys (2012) for the 2024-25 season.  We will continue to offer U9 through U12 teams for Boys and Girls looking to join one of the top programs in the region.  If looking to tryout or attend a training session please contact the South Director laurence.smith@mdunitedfc.org

Maryland United South will be an extension of the overall Maryland United program but will stand alone to create independent teams based solely out of Southern Maryland (Calvert, Charles & St. Marys) in the youngest age groups.

Maryland United South players will try out together in their respective age group.  Teams will be tiered as follows: The first team (South Red) second (South White) third (South Gold) & fourth (South Silver) team will be created in age groups where the player pool is large enough to support more than one team.

Scheduled periodically throughout the year, Maryland United South teams will have academy training nights with the entire Maryland United player pool and have guest playing opportunities between Maryland United & Maryland United South teams.
